We are very excited to announce that indoor Agility has been approved by AKC and will be held indoors on Monday & Tuesday, April 11-12th at the Roberts Centre. More details will follow, but Cavaliers will have preferred (advance) registration for agility from Feb. 12-26, 2022. All-breed registration will open on Feb. 27, 2022. Agility - not only an enjoyable sport to compete in, but so much fun to watch! It’s one of the fastest-growing canine sports in the country. Canine agility is a sport where you direct your dog through a pre-set obstacle course in a race for time and accuracy. Cavaliers are especially enjoyable to watch as they race through the course. You can see the exhilaration -- their tails wagging and their ears flying out as they leap through tires, jump over hurdles and dive through tunnels. Courses typically have between 14-20 obstacles, which can include tunnels, weave poles, tire jumps, seesaws, and pause tables where the dog must stop for a set amount of time. Each trial features a unique course designed for that day. Dogs race around the courses, relying on the owner’s voice & movement cutes, and body signals. Dogs run off leash, without the use of toys or food as motivators. Agility can be quite a rush – and a great way to build an even deeper bond between you and your dog.

I currently live in Evansville, Indiana with 4 dogs: one Cocker Spaniel, one Cavalier, and two Beagles. My favorite activity is just relaxing with my dogs at home in our own backyard. The only thing I enjoy more than judging is showing my own dogs. I began working with dogs at the age of six when my mother took in the over-flow from the local humane society, which eventually evolved into a kennel with 7 different breeds. I got my start in obedience and conformation showing in 4-H.

My first Cocker Spaniel, Sarah, turned out to be extremely fearful in certain situations even though she was well trained. When I was invited to attend an outing with the police dog team I jumped at the chance, since this was one of those situations. The guys were working their dogs on agility-like equipment. Sarah became so excited she pulled away from me and ran to the top of the Aframe-like wall, and sat there with her eyes just twinkling! Sarah and I left there that day with a newfound joy; agility became a wonderful addiction for us both when AKC introduced their program. I also enjoy competing in Fast Cat, Scentwork, Tricks, & Barn Hunt. I have shown Cockers, Schnauzers, Golden Retrievers, Cavaliers, Collies, and a Lab in agility and am enjoying training my first Beagles. I have put over 375 titles on my dogs in various dog sports and venues.

I feel that being invited to judge agility trials is such an honor and I hope exhibitors enjoy themselves. I get to enjoy having the best seat in the house to view such wonderful Agility teams!
