NATIONAL SPECIALTY SHOW
Conformation judges who are judging the National Specialty Shall NOT judge
any Cavalier Specialty Show in North America for any Cavalier Club for a
period of one (1) year prior to and two (2) months following the ACKCSC
National assignment. Judges for the ACKCSC Cavalier National will NOT judge
Cavaliers at any show in North America for six (6) months prior to the
National assignment. The judge’s contract shall be null and void if all of
these conditions are not met. This policy shall be strictly enforced.
(revised 3/05)
The ACKCSC President, National Specialty Show Chairman, or members of
their households, will not enter or exhibit dogs at the ACKCSC National
Specialty Show. 10/04
No judge will judge the National Specialty Show more than once in a
five-year period.
JUDGES SELECTION – Ballots will be mailed to all regular voting members by
the Judge Selection Committee, or professional firm designated by the Board,
in the fall of each year. Ballots from the first round will be returned one
month from the date of mailing. The second ballot will be sent out one month
after the return of the first ballot with a return deadline of one month
from the time of mailing.
JUDGE SELECTION PROCEDURE – Judges for the National Specialty Breed and
Sweepstakes competition shall be selected by the club’s voting membership in
a two-ballot process. A committee of three (or outside professional firm)
shall count both ballots.
The first ballot will consist of a list of all AKC judges eligible to judge
the breed. Since it would be impossible to send a complete list of judges
from every foreign country, no list of foreign judges will be sent. Any
member who wants a list of foreign judges should request one from the
country of their choice. No person shall be eligible for nomination to judge
either Breed or Sweepstakes if that person has judged the event within the
past five years. Ineligible persons shall be so indicated on the first
ballot. This ballot will be mailed to all ACKCSC voting members. Each member
can vote for a maximum of FOUR different people to judge the Breed, from the
list of AKC judges and/or by writing in the names of foreign judges who meet
AKC eligibility requirements.
The names of the ten Breed judges receiving the most votes will be placed on
a second ballot. In the case of a tie for 10th, those names will be included
in the second ballot. The Corresponding Secretary will contact the 10 Breed
judges receiving the most votes to confirm their availability and agreement
with our requirements. For each judge that is not available/agreeable, the
Secretary will contact the next highest vote getter until 10 candidates are
confirmed available to judge. That list will become the second ballot. The
second ballot will be mailed to all ACKCSC voting members instructing them
to indicate their first, second and third choice from the ballot to judge
the Breed. Any ballot not indicating first, second and third choices for
three different judges will not be counted.
In counting the second ballots, the committee (or other person(s) or firm)
will total the points for each judge; adding 3 points for each “first
choice” received by a judge; 2 points for each “second choice” received by a
judge; and 1 point for each “third choice” received by a judge. The names
will be ordered by total number of points, highest to lowest. In the case of
a tie in the total number of points, the person with the most “first choice”
wins the tie. If that does not resolve the tie, the Board will resolve the
tie.
The person receiving the most points to judge Breed will be invited to judge
the intersex classes and their choice of either the dog or bitch classes. If
that person declines the invitation then the person with the next highest
number of points will be invited, etc. until the invitation has been
accepted. After the first judge has accepted the invitation, the person
receiving the next highest number of points will be invited to judge classes
for the sex not selected by the first judge. If that person declines the
invitation, then the person with the next highest number of points will be
invited, etc., until the invitation has been accepted.
SWEEPSTAKES: The Club Board of Directors will solicit nominations from the
membership for names of Cavalier breeders or AKC licensed judges who are NOT
CURRENTLY APPROVED to judge the Breed. This solicitation may be made in the
Club newsletter. Upon receipt of these names, the members of the Board may
add supplemental names meeting the same criteria, and upon majority vote of
the members of the Board shall select a slate of four names to be voted on
by the membership. Depending on the expected entry at the national, the top
one or two names will be asked to judge sweepstakes. Should an insufficient
number of the individuals so selected be able to judge, and then the Board
of Directors shall select the remaining judge(s). The second ballot for
Sweepstakes judges will be counted following the same weighted procedure as
for Breed judges.
The Specialty Show Committee shall select the obedience and/or agility judge
for the National Specialty. Also, if neither breed judge is eligible to
judge Jr. Showmanship, or if neither accepts that assignment, the Specialty
Show Committee shall also select the judge for Junior Showmanship. (5/05)
