Thank you for contacting the American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Rescue Trust. The goal of the ACKCS Rescue Trust is to assist in the placement of Cavaliers in need of rescue due to abuse or those Cavaliers requiring re-homing for a variety of reasons. The Cavalier is an exceptional dog and is seldom placed in a rescue situation, but it does happen. We feel extremely fortunate that most of our lovely royal spaniels spend their lives in one home with their loving and caring families. There is a Preliminary Adoption Application above. Your application must be on file in order for us to consider you as a possible home for a rescue dog.
With regard to rescue, you should be aware that we don't get puppies; the Cavaliers placed in rescue are usually middle aged to older dogs; the rescue Cavalier may have special needs; and the adoption process may take a considerable length of time. The Cavalier requiring re-homing may be younger, but again is generally middle aged and may be a special needs dog.
If you prefer to locate a Cavalier more quickly, our web site also provides tips on looking for a puppy, recognizing a reputable breeder, a breeder referral list, why you shouldn't buy from a pet store or from an ad in the newspaper. Contact a Regional Club near you, attend their meetings and get to know people in your region who own, breed, show, and just love Cavaliers. These Regional Clubs are a terrific source of information. You will find a list of Regional Clubs on the contacts page on our web site. Attend dog shows in your area and talk to those showing Cavaliers. Contact your local kennel club they may be able to direct you to local Cavalier owners or breeders. Ask your vet, he may know breeders or owners in your area. Cavaliers are often used for pet therapy so check with your local senior citizens homes, children's hospitals, and rehab centers. Find out when the Cavaliers will be visiting and make arrangements to be there and talk to the Cavalier owner. You will find that Cavalier owners are always willing to talk about our wonderful spaniels.
